When you receive a contract from a potential partner, you are three quarters of the way home. Obviously the terms have to be agreeable but you MUST read the fine print to make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary. We have learned a lot through the negotiation process described in the Life of a Triathlete manuals and one of the first lessons is you have to be alert so you don’t agree to something that you will regret down the road. The bottom line: Read the contract!
Every year, we have had to provide a company with a contract because they had not drawn one up yet. When you are working with niche companies who are trying to gain a foothold in the sport, they might not have even thought about the actual contract. Because of this, we pieced this contract together from a few given to us by quality sponsors. If a company we are starting to work with does not have a contract, we tailor this to them and send it along as a prototype example.
